Knowledge is the key to
understanding and erasing ignorance and stereotypes. It has become apparent in the general populous of
Plymouth
and surrounding areas, that there are still events that are considered
hate crimes and bigotry in nature. Diversity
Day will seek to help counter these types of activities by educating the
general public in a positive way by introducing them the beauty of the
similarities and differences of the cultures and subcultures in the
area. We seek to celebrate
those differences by giving attendees a brief education on them through
literature, crafts, and presentations in a fun and family friendly
atmosphere. The public is invited to
attend free of charge.
The
event will be laid out in fair-type set up with tables and a stage for
performers offering free live entertainment.
The tables will be hosted by a representative that will
speak to the content including traditions, history, experiences or
cultural tools. The table
representatives will have a “hands on” approach when meeting with individuals
of all ages who wish to come and learn more about their
information. Many tables include
free giveaways and information handouts.
Children
will receive a 'passport' which will be stamped at each booth they
visit. The children can bring their stamped
'passports' to receive an item from our giveaway table which includes
hats, lunch bags, key chains, pens, and more!
