Dear Plymouth Public Schools Community,
As a community, it is vital that we come together to support and protect one another. I want to take a moment to address concerns regarding the safety and well-being of our immigrant students and families and to outline the steps our district is taking to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all.
At Plymouth Public Schools, we are steadfast in our commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We value the varied backgrounds, perspectives, and the rich diversity of our students and families as a strength that unites us and drives our mission forward. In alignment with our Diversity, Equity & Inclusive Practices Statement, we are dedicated to creating an environment where every individual feels safe, valued, respected, and empowered.
Protecting Immigrant Students and Families We understand the concerns many families have regarding potential immigration enforcement actions. Please be assured that Plymouth Public Schools maintains the following protections:
We do not ask for or collect information about families’ immigration statuses.
We do not share student records with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) unless required by a valid court order or with parental/guardian consent.
We will not allow ICE agents access to our facilities without a criminal judicial warrant signed by a federal judge. Administrative warrants or ICE detainers will not be honored for access to our schools.
Principals and administrators have received clear guidance on responding to ICE interactions and protecting students’ rights.
We are reviewing our policies and practices for compliance with our mission.
Training and Support for Staff Our administrators are being trained to safeguard the rights and dignity of our students. This includes understanding legal obligations, protocols for handling ICE interactions, and ways to provide emotional and academic support to students who may feel vulnerable. We are committed to ensuring all staff members are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to create a safe and welcoming environment.
Resources for Families and the Broader Community We are making resources available to help families understand their rights and know how to respond to potential ICE actions. These resources include:
Materials in multiple languages outlining steps families can take to prepare and protect themselves.,
Connections to trusted community organizations and legal aid for additional support.
Access to counseling and mental health services to address the emotional toll of fear and uncertainty.
Counseling and Mental Health Services We recognize the emotional toll that fear and uncertainty can have on students and families. To address this, we offer confidential counseling and mental health services for students who may be experiencing anxiety or fear for themselves, their families, or their friends. Our school counselors and psychologists are available to provide support and guidance during these challenging times.
Clear and Ongoing Communication Transparency and communication are critical. We are committed to keeping students, families, and staff informed about the measures in place to ensure safety and support. We encourage families to reach out to their school principals or district administrators with any questions or concerns.
Plymouth Public Schools is unwavering in our dedication to providing a safe and supportive environment where every child can thrive. We believe every child—regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability or immigration status—has the right to a high-quality education in a welcoming and inclusive setting. We will continue to uphold these values, ensuring that all students feel safe, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Thank you for your partnership in making Plymouth Public Schools a place where all students and families feel safe and supported. Together, we will continue to stand for the values of equity, inclusion, and respect that define our community.
Sincerely,
Christopher S. Campbell, Ed.D.
