MLK Jr. Humanitarian Award Committee

The Committee recognizes those within the Plymouth Community who have made outstanding and significant contributions in the spirit of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. towards making our town an ideal place to live. Awards are presented each year during the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.

The recipient(s) of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award will be chosen collectively by the MLK Jr. Humanitarian Award Committee, which consists of 4 or more individuals nominated by the Plymouth No Place For Hate Committee.

The recipient(s) of this prestigious community award will be announced at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Monday, January 16, 2023.

MLK Jr. Humanitarian Award Criteria & Nomination

The Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award shall be presented annually to the person or persons who have demonstrated leadership or volunteerism while making significant contributions in the areas of:

Promoting peace, understanding, and improving communication and cooperation between diverse populations in Plymouth.

Award Criteria

Plymouth Organization, Non-Profit, Business or Citizen who:

  1. Has shown visible and continuing leadership in one or more of the following areas: education, civil rights, community or civic services;
  2. Has demonstrated the principles of Dr. King within the community;
  3. Has not previously received this award;
  4. Currently not a member of the MLK Jr. Humanitarian Award Committee;
  5. Not currently running for office.
