No Place For Hate Book Collection

The  No Place For Hate committee of the Town of Plymouth has worked with the Plymouth Public Library to create a collection of books and DVDs about social justice.  In 2016, the collection was greatly augmented by donations given in memory of Dr. Barry Meltzer, who originally established the collection to help further the work of the committee. When Dr. Meltzer passed away in 2015, family, friends, and associates from near and far made memorial gifts to the Library to expand the collection. The Library launched the updated collection in May 2016 with a special program featuring guest speaker Dale Russakoff, author of the New York Times bestseller The Prize: Who’s In Charge of America’s Schools?

We also have a No Place For Hate Collection in the Children’s Department.  In December 2017, educator Jackie Winokur, a member of the No Place for Hate Committee, led an interactive workshop for parents and adult family members who read to and with children exploring outstanding children’s books which address social justice issues and which reflect the history and culture of diverse audiences. Many of these books are appropriate for children from preschool through middle school as well as suitable for high school level discussions.
